The Ondo Redemption Front has expressed concern over what it described as rising insecurity and declining governance standards in Ondo State, accusing the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of evading accountability.

In a joint statement by its chairman, Ayodeji Ologun; co-chairman, Mogbojuri Kayode; and secretary, Adedotun Ajulo, the group said security, which is the primary responsibility of any government, has deteriorated significantly under the current administration.

According to the statement, kidnapping has become rampant across several communities, with farmers allegedly unable to access their farmlands safely and travellers living in fear on major highways.

“The government’s response has been largely reactive, incoherent and ineffective, leaving citizens to fend for themselves in an atmosphere of growing insecurity,” the group stated.

The Ondo Redemption Front also criticised the state of healthcare delivery, alleging that public hospitals and health centres are under-equipped and overstretched.

“In the health sector, the story is equally depressing. Facilities are inadequate, personnel are overstretched and demoralised, and essential services remain inaccessible to many residents,” the statement read.

On workers’ welfare, the group claimed that the state has lagged in implementing the new minimum wage regime, alleging that some staff at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in Owo are still earning as low as 18,000.

It further alleged corruption and financial mismanagement within the institution, calling for an independent and transparent investigation.

The group also cited unrest in the education sector, referencing protests by students of the Ondo State School of Health Technology, Akure, as well as industrial actions by judicial and health workers at various times.

Describing recent activities marking the governor’s first anniversary in office as lacking substance, the group argued that many of the commissioned projects were routine interventions such as road rehabilitations and boreholes, which it said do not amount to transformative governance.

Among its demands, the Ondo Redemption Front called on the state government to clarify the governor’s tenure, declare a state-wide security emergency with a time-bound strategy, and make urgent investments in public healthcare infrastructure.

It also urged the administration to fully implement the new minimum wage or review salaries upward in line with national standards, particularly in tertiary institutions.

The group further demanded transparent substantive appointments in public institutions, full implementation of local government and judicial autonomy, and accountability over recent incidents of political violence in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government had not responded to the allegations and demands raised by the group.
