A Diaspora group, under the auspices of the Plateau State Association, USA, Inc. (PSA-USA), has launched a campaign fund to support the rehabilitation and resettlement of displaced communities across 17 local government areas and 64 wards in Plateau State.

The group made the announcement during its 20th Anniversary Convention and Award Night in Lanham, Maryland, the United States of America. Its National President, Dr Bartholomew Shepkong, who made the statement available in Abuja, described the campaign as “a bold humanitarian initiative.”

Shepkong said the objective of the initiative was to alleviate the plight of the displaced citizens of Plateau State. “The initiative, which seeks to provide infrastructure, relief, and long-term recovery, is warmly received as a testament to the Diaspora’s commitment to the homeland,” he said.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who was represented by Dr Patrick Dakum, commended the group for the initiative, noting that only 30 percent of security lies with military action, while 70 per cent depends on education, skills, and good governance. “Your action has not only provided relief to the internally displaced persons (IDPs), but also renewed hope and strengthened Nigeria’s image before the world,” he said.
