From David Onwuchekwa, Nnewi
A philanthropist in Nnewi, Anambra State, Mr. Uzo Nwosu recently gave some succour to indigent folks in Anambra State.
Nwosu, a public servant, has in various dimensions, touched so many lives positively, including helping his kinsmen and others secure well paid good jobs.
Using his foundation, Reality Forum, he has always found time to visit his hometown occasionally to feel the pulse of indigent people, in order to give succour to them.
The forum’s recent outing, which was coordinated by the Special Assistant to Governor Willie Obiano on Youth Entrepreneurship, Eloka Maduekwe took the foundation to the Community Children’s Home, Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, and Rehabilitation Centre for Disabled, Old and Tramp (RECDOT), Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.
Items donated to the two orphanage homes included instant noodles, toiletries, beverages, disinfectants, bags of rice and other necessities of the homes with cash to foot some bills.
“I’m not a money bag. But I feel for these children and our brothers and sisters who are not always remembered by other members of our society. To be kept where we meet them today is not a fault of theirs. We should encourage them and give them a sense of belonging. Everybody should look at that direction. And government alone cannot do it. As our forum is an All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) support group, we will not relent in supporting these homes and others in need to the best of our ability and in appreciation of Governor Obiano’s good administration,” Nwosu submitted.
Nwosu said he was always happy seeing smiles on the faces of the less privileged, noting that he would not wait until he became extraordinarily rich before helping those who needed help, no matter how little.
Responding to the gesture, the matron in charge of the Amichi home, Mrs Grace Mmaduaghasi explained that the home began operational in 2013 under the care of the local government authorities and fully registered. She said the orphanage began with 16 children and nine caregivers.
Some of the immediate needs of the home, according to the matron, were feeding, means of transportation, provision of potable water, instructional materials, lack of adequate medication and poor power supply, among others. She expressed gratitude to Mr. Nwosu and his Reality Forum for remembering the inmates of the home with donations.
She said that if other well to do Nigerians would emulate the kind gestures of the forum, the society would be a better place for everyone. She appealed for more help to the home from other well meaning Nigerians or groups.
Mrs Rose Odumegwu in charge of the RECDOT prayed God to bless the group and its initiative. She explained that the home had always depended on public-spirited individuals and groups for survival. She expressed hope that other philanthropists in Anambra and other parts of the country would always cultivate the spirit of giving to the needy.
In a related development, to appreciate his philanthropic gestures and other contributions towards the development of Nnewi community, Nnewi Academic Congress (NAC) has made Nwosu its national patron. He was also given an award.
Receiving the honour, Nwosu said he was overwhelmed by the honour done him and promised to continue to give back to the society in service to God and humanity.
