The Nkpokote Nsukka Development Forum (NNDF), a socio-cultural organisation has urged all leaders of the Nsukka cultural zone of Enugu State to embrace peace and forge a united front for sustainable progress and development of the area.

Barth Ugwuoke, President of NNDF made the call during the forum’s second colloquium and grand reception of sons and daughters of Nsukka, themed “Nsukka Rising: Honouring Our Best, Building Our Future,” held at the Ekpo Refectorium, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

He said that it was imperative for all sons and daughters of the cultural zone to shield their grievances and misconceptions, and work together for sustainable development, economic growth, and development of the zone.

“I call on all of us to shield our misgivings, grievances, and misconceptions, and to work together for a common purpose—realising the prosperity that rightly belongs to our people and future generations.

“Nsukka has produced great intellectuals, professionals, and leaders across every field of human endeavour, yet, we cannot afford to remain passive while others exploit our talents, resources, and opportunities. It is unacceptable to play second or third fiddle to inefficiency or pretension.

“Today, we rise, not as individuals, but as a people committed to sustainable development, economic growth, and the well-being of our communities. We will empower our youth, support one another, and showcase Nsukka as a beacon of excellence,” he said.

Speaking further, the forum’s president noted that the colloquium and grand reception are not mere formality.

“They are a window for robust brotherhood, dialogue, and collective understanding. Together, we declare that Nsukka will no longer be fragmented. We shall speak with one voice, act with purpose, and plan with clarity. We will rise above the decades of divide-and-rule strategies that have exploited our nativity, anxieties, and ambitions.

In a remark, Prof Simon Ortuanya, Vice Chancellor of UNN, called for unity and love among the people of Nsukka, adding that such collective effort had led to the emergence of a native of the zone as the VC of UNN since its inception.
