Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom has reiterated the desire of his administration to ensure a quick process of providing land for investors who are willing to commence agricultural projects in the state.
Ortom who stated this when he received the management team of the Humanitarian Environmental Project Company based in Netherlands in his office weekend noted that wet lands in Agatu and Gwer-West local government areas should be provided for the company’s project, stressing that more land could be made available in due course.
He also immediately directed his principal private secretary, Mr Stephen Amase, to liaise with the Special Adviser on Lands and Survey, Professor Jonathan Uever, with a view to making land available for the firm’s agricultural project.
The governor while positing that the problem of agriculture in the past was low value for products which led to rural-urban migration said the story had now changed for good as Benue youths have started going back to land.
Ortom also expressing joy that the company was willing to invest in the state assured that the state government would provide security and other logistics that would enhance the success of the project.
Speaking earlier, leader of the delegation and chief executive officer of the company, Mr Win Belt, said his organization would need about 40,000 hectares of wet lands to go into mechanized agriculture as well as train users.
Belt also said improved seedlings would be used for open fields and green houses and emphasized that finishing touches were being given to the memorandum of understanding for the project which is billed to take off soon.
