Gov Yusuf receives New Telegraph’s Best Governor of the Year Award on Education

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, was yesterday, named best Governor of the Year 2024 on Educational Development by the New Telegraph Newspapers in Lagos.

Presenting the award, the former Governor of Abia State, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who is the Publisher of the New Telegraph Newspapers, alongside former Governor of Edo State, Sen. Adams Oshiomole, felicitate with Gov Yusuf, who was full of admiration.

A statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Mr. Sanusi Bature, noted that the event, which was attended by the Managing Director of the NNPP, Mele Kyari, and other dignitaries, showcased Governor Yusuf’s commitments to the development of education and his unflinching support for the growth of the sector.

The Governor, who was represented by the State Executive Council led by Special Adviser on State Affairs, Usman Bala, a former Head of Service in the State and the State Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, among others, expressed deep happiness for the award.

He also expressed his commitment to continue to give the education sector more attention and support to achieve the most desired reforms championed by his government.

He was selected alongside other governors, including those of Ekiti, Sokoto, Lagos, Ondo, Ogun, Borno, Delta and Osun states.

According the New Telegraph’s Management, the Governor was selected based on his administration’s commitments to education reforms, including the declaration of state of emergency on education, sponsorship of 1, 001 postgraduate students abroad, recruitment of teachers, provision of classrooms, instructional materials, desks and chairs and allocation of 29.5 and 31 percent of the total budget for 2024 and 2025 to education, respectively.

Among other members of the delegation of the Governor were the  Special Adviser, State Affairs, Usman Bala; Director General, Protocol, Abdullahi Rogo;  Director General, Media and Publicity, Sanusi Bature; Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Aisha Lawan Saji; Special Adviser on Civil Service Matters, Suleiman Wali Sani; Special Adviser on Education, Tajuddeen Gambo; Managing Director of KASCO, Dr. Kabiru Sani; Managing Director, Tourism, Tukur Bala Sagagi, and Managing Director, Abubakar Rimi Market, Abdul Hussain.
