The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended Governor Dapo Abiodun and the Ogun State House of Assembly for the signing of the Ogun State Education and Skills Trust Fund Bill into law.
In a social media post earlier on Saturday, the governor confirmed signing the bill into law.
Gov. Abiodun said the new law would support school infrastructure, bursaries, teacher development and vocational training, as well as provide funding for the modernisation of the state’s traditional apprenticeship system.
In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Comrade Oladimeji Uthman, the National Headquarters of NANS described the development as a significant step towards strengthening sustainable financing for education and expanding opportunities for skills acquisition and vocational development in the state.
The association said the new law provides an additional funding framework beyond conventional budgetary allocation, with provisions expected to support school infrastructure, bursaries, teacher development, maintenance, vocational training and the modernisation of the traditional apprenticeship system.

NANS noted that initiatives that place education, employable skills and student welfare at the centre of development are critical, noting that the focus on both formal and informal education reflects the need to equip young Nigerians with practical competencies relevant to the demands of the modern economy.
The student body also commended the Ogun State House of Assembly under the leadership of the Speaker, Rt Hon Oludaisi Elemide, for its legislative diligence in advancing the bill through its third reading and transmitting it for assent.
It called on all relevant stakeholders including government, private sector, educational institutions and development partners to work collectively towards effective implementation of the law, stressing that transparency, accountability and proper prioritisation of student needs would be essential to translating the objectives of the trust fund into tangible benefits.
NANS further urged that students, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, remain central beneficiaries of programmes arising from the fund through bursaries, improved learning facilities, skills development and other educational interventions.
The association expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government for the initiative and said it looks forward to continued engagement and collaboration in advancing the interests and welfare of Nigerian students.
