The Gombe State Police Command has announced the foiling of multiple crimes, recording breakthroughs in its ongoing clampdown on criminal activities in the state.
According to the police, no fewer than nine suspects have been arrested and several stolen properties, including firearms, motorcycles, iron rods, and cattle recovered in a recent crackdown.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed that the coordinated operations were carried out between 17 September and 19 September under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police (CP) Bello Yahaya.
According to him, three teenagers, Shamsudeen Haruna (22), Tahir Ismail Ahmad (20), and Muhammed Abdullahi (18), were arrested around Doma in Gombe metropolis, in possession of a prohibited pistol. He explained the arrest followed intelligence-led surveillance and that the case is under investigation.

He added that in another operation, a patrol team attached to Operation Hattara intercepted four men at the Three Arm Zone along Bauchi Road with 226 pieces of stolen iron rods. The suspects, identified as Sule Isah (47), Mohammed Aliyu (40), Justine Yila (26), and Sani Job (26), reportedly confessed to the crime.
Similarly, police operatives in Bomala community of Akko Local Government Area (LGA) arrested 32-year-old Tukur Mohammed with a stolen red Boxer motorcycle, while his accomplice, one Ahmadu Buba, remains at large. Buhari also disclosed that in a related case, 18-year-old Abubakar Auwal, alias Abba, was arrested with a stolen black TVS motorcycle, while his partner, Ali Tukur, escaped.
He further stated that the clampdown also extended to rural Balanga LGA, where cattle rustlers abandoned two stolen cows after a patrol team discovered them hidden in bushes near Bangu Village. A white Hummer bus suspected to have been used for the operation was recovered as an exhibit, while the cows were returned to their owners.
Commending the officers for their vigilance, CP Yahaya urged residents to remain alert and support security agencies with timely information. “The Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property through proactive and intelligence-driven operations,” he said while assuring that the arrested suspects are in police custody and will be charged in court upon conclusion of investigations.
