Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has expressed his administration’s readiness to collaborate with the Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC) in developing the state’s creative economy, describing the federal agency as a key driver of regional, continental, and global achievements in the film industry.

The governor made the pledge on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the NFC’s Managing Director/Chief Executive, Dr Ali Nuhu, to the Government House, Gombe.

Governor Yahaya noted that his administration remains committed to positioning Gombe as a creative hub by harnessing its vast talents and cultural assets through institutionalised partnerships.

He emphasised that such collaborations would strengthen training, capacity building, youth empowerment, and job creation, all crucial for sustainable socio-economic development.

“In the past six years, we have initiated and supported innovative creative enterprises to diversify and grow the state’s economy. Our goal is to ensure that the creative sector becomes a major driver of growth for Gombe State and the entire North-East,” he said.

Earlier in his remarks, Dr Nuhu commended Governor Yahaya for his “insightful, intentional, and well-thought-out socio-economic development programmes,” stressing that the creative industry has the potential to significantly accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth.

He noted that Gombe State stands to benefit immensely from strategic initiatives such as promoting its rich cultural heritage, supporting local talent, and implementing vibrant creative economy blueprints.

Discussions during the visit focused on the proposed construction of a Mega Cinematography Centre in Gombe to serve the state and neighbouring North-East states under the NFC’s zonal operations. Plans for youth training in film production, digitised content creation, and monetisation, as well as academic collaborations between the National Film Institute (NFI), Jos, and Gombe State University, were also highlighted.

The meeting reaffirmed a shared vision between the Gombe State Government and the NFC to create a thriving creative industry capable of boosting economic growth and expanding opportunities for young people in the region.
