Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has approved the establishment of the Gombe State Electricity Regulatory Commission (GOSERC) and the Gombe State Information Technology and Digital Economy Commission (GIDTEC) as part of a strategic push to strengthen regulation, stimulate innovation, and accelerate economic transformation in the state.
According to a statement issued by his senior media aide, Ismail Uba Misilli, the approval followed the governor’s assent to the bills establishing the two commissions, providing them with full legal authority to commence operations.
He explained that the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, who conveyed the decision, also announced the appointment of Dr Usman Abba Arabi as Chairman of GOSERC, and Al-Amin Umar Barambu as Chairman of GIDTEC.
He added that the appointments were based on the expertise and professional backgrounds of the appointees, which are expected to support the effective take-off and delivery of the commissions’ mandates.

The establishment of GOSERC aligns with the state’s power sector reform agenda, particularly in leveraging the provisions of the Electricity Act to enhance electricity regulation, improve service delivery, attract private investment and expand access to reliable power supply across the state.
Similarly, the creation of GIDTEC is aimed at positioning Gombe as a technology-driven and digitally competitive economy, with focus on ICT development, digital innovation, skills acquisition, e-governance and youth employment.
The governor charged the newly appointed chairmen to deploy their experience, professionalism and integrity in building strong, responsive and results-oriented institutions capable of delivering measurable benefits to the people of the state, adding that the appointments take effect from January 2, 2026.
