Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang yesterday, reminisced on the Supreme Court judgment, which restored his mandate in the 2023 election, describing it as a divine intervention.

Mutfwang, who was elected under the Peoples Democratic Party  (PDP) defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in November 2025.

An Appeal Court judgment had earlier swept him out of office, including all the national and state assembly members elected under the PDP.

Speaking during a thanksgiving service to mark his third year in office at the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, the governor said: “I escaped like a bird from the snares of the fowler. If not for the Supreme Court, I was gone.”

He recalled the jubilation that followed the Supreme Court’s judgment of January 12, 2024, stating that residents of the state were ecstatic, while market women celebrated the verdict by giving out goods free of charge.

According to him, the event remained one of the most turning points and emotional moments of his political journey.

The governor also disclosed that even his election in 2023 was divinely ordained as he received a major boost shortly before the PDP primary election when an unknown individual gifted him $100,000.

“Three days before the primaries, somebody I had never known in my life gave me a gift and said, ‘Don’t open it until you get home.’ When I opened it, it was $100,000,” he said.

He further disclosed that a prominent Plateau elder statesman funded his entire governorship campaign, but he, however, did not disclose his name.

He said his administration spent more than N4 billion on humanitarian assistance to vulnerable residents across the state between January and December last year.

According to him, the funds were used to settle medical bills, school fees and provide various forms of support to Plateau citizens in need.

“From January to the middle of December last year, we spent over N4 billion assisting Plateau people.; people I never knew and people I may never get to know, but as long as they are Plateau people, it touches my heart,” he said.

Highlighting  some of his administration’s achievements, the governor said that he lit up the streets of Jos by installing solar-powered street lights, provision of water projects and improvements in healthcare delivery.

Other projects he highlighted included the commissioning of a water project in Bukuru, where residents  had gone for nearly two decades without access to potable water.

He also disclosed that the state government had reduced the cost of X-ray services in general hospitals by 50 percent, while significant improvements had been recorded at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital.

On security challenges in the state, the governor lamented the loss of lives recorded in attacks across the state, describing the root of the crises in Plateau as complex but expressed optimism that the ongoing efforts by security agencies were producing positive results.

He also decried what he described as a culture of division and hostility among citizens, admonishing the people to learn to live in peace and warning that the spirit of segregation could only thrive when citizens try to undermine one another.

“There is a spirit on the Plateau that if I don’t destroy my brother, I cannot move forward. It is happening in politics, in the civil service, in the church and everywhere. By the grace of God, we will overcome it.”

He commended President Bola Tinubu for what he described as providing clearer direction to security agencies in tackling threats to national security.

He solicited continuous prayer and support from the people over the past three years and pledged to remain committed to improving their welfare and security.
