The Supreme Council of the Tijaniyya Islamic movement has offered prayers for President Bola Tinubu and expressed condolences over the death of renowned Islamic scholar and former leader of the Tijaniyya organisation in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi.
A delegation of the council, drawn from Algeria, Nigeria and Senegal and representing more than 400 million members of the Tijaniyya movement worldwide, paid a condolence visit to the President at the State House, Abuja.
The delegation also included members of the Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi Foundation led by Khalifa-Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Khalifa of Tijaniyya from Algeria, Sheikh Ali Bin Arabi, described the relationship between Nigeria and Algeria as one founded on deep historical, social and spiritual ties, pledging continued prayers for stronger bonds between both countries.
“We will continue to pray for the sustenance of the spiritual relationship between Nigeria and Algeria,” Sheikh Ali Bin Arabi said.
He also prayed for enduring peace and unity in Nigeria as well as good health for President Tinubu.
“We pray for peace and love in Nigeria, and for the physical and spiritual health of President Tinubu,” he added.
Responding, President Tinubu thanked the delegation for the visit and paid glowing tribute to the late Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, describing him as an exceptional spiritual leader whose legacy would continue to inspire generations.
“We miss our father, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi. He was a beloved father and a great leader,” the President said.
Tinubu also commended the Tijaniyya Movement for its contributions to the propagation of Islam and the promotion of peace across Africa and beyond.
“I respect you for what you are doing for Islam across Africa and the whole world. May God continue to guide you,” he said.
Sheikh Bauchi, one of Nigeria’s most influential Islamic scholars and a leading figure of the Tijaniyya order, died on November 26, 2025, at the age of 98. His passing drew tributes from religious leaders, political figures and followers across Nigeria and other parts of the world, reflecting his enduring influence on Islamic scholarship and spiritual leadership.
