GAIN, Afreximbank train 300 entrepreneurs on intra-Africa trade, others

Grand Africa Initiative (GAIN), in partnership with the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), has successfully concluded the 2024 Masterclass on Entrepreneurship and Intra-African Trade.

It explained that the programme was designed to equip young African entrepreneurs with the skills required to build their businesses and thrive in the expanding intra-African market.

GAIN, in a statement, on Monday, disclosed that 300 emerging business leaders from across Africa participated in the Masterclass which was highly impactful.

Janet Oladapo, the Programs Officer at GAIN and Coordinator for the Masterclass, expressed satisfaction with the program’s success and its positive impact on the participants.

She explained: “The six-week intensive training which commenced in May 2024, focused on fostering the entrepreneurial capabilities of young Africans, emphasizing the importance of expanding businesses beyond national borders and leveraging opportunities provided by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

“The participants, selected from various regions of Africa, engaged in a comprehensive curriculum that included technical guidance, practical training, and business advisory sessions led by distinguished faculty of international experts.

“The Masterclass comprehensively covered a broad range of essential topics, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required to develop and sustain a fully functional and thriving business.

“The curriculum included critical areas such as business idea formulation and planning, identification of market opportunities, and strategies for business partnerships. Participants also gained insights into strategic marketing and sales techniques, business branding, communication strategies, and customer service excellence, and all these were done to ensure beneficiaries are thoroughly equipped in every aspect necessary for developing a fully functional and thriving business.”

She appreciated the partnership with Afreximbank that had, consistently, provided empowerment opportunities for young African entrepreneurs. “The program has provided essential support to young entrepreneurs across Africa, equipping them with the expertise, networks, and mentorship crucial for their business development.

“This year’s edition has proven to be no different, and we are excited to see the outcomes of the participants’ efforts as they apply what they have learned.”

Mr. Chidozie Ezeani, Associate AU/AfCFTA Relations and Trade Policy (ARTP), representing AfreximBank, emphasized the bank’s commitment to supporting African youths who are the continent’s most valuable resources.

He further highlighted the importance of equipping young entrepreneurs with the necessary skills, information and access to opportunities presented by the AFCFTA

Some of the participants appreciated GAIN and Afreximbank for the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills needed to register their presence in African business/trade arena.

Monde Thursday Yissah, CEO Yissah Logistics Group Limited, Malawi, said, the sessions changed the perspective of his business, adding that the business advisory session changed everything and put him in the right direction.”

Chioma Echegwisi, CEO Davichi Farms and Agrotech Nig Ltd, Nigeria, said, “this has been a very enlightening programme and knowledge packed. I look forward to networking between the mentors and fellow participants as well as grant opportunities and access to markets.”
