On July 20th, 2024, the Funmilayo Health Foundation Africa hosted a transformative Skills Acquisition Training in Makoko, Lagos, Nigeria. This initiative aimed to equip young minds across Africa with valuable skills, fostering a sustainable economy in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of eradicating poverty and hunger.

 

The objective of the event was to empower Makoko youths by providing them with diverse practical knowledge to promote self-sufficiency, income generation, and economic sustainability. Participants of the event were trained based on their areas of interest, which included knitting, soap making, perfume oil and diffuser creation, makeup and gele training, and bead making. Trainees were also provided with learning kits, and ten outstanding participants were gifted N100,000 cash prizes to encourage them to keep practicing and honing their new skills.

The event was met with overwhelming enthusiasm from the Makoko community. The community chief and the people of Makoko expressed their gratitude and highlighted the positive impacts of the foundation on the community’s morale and outlook. The sense of happiness and optimism was palpable as participants eagerly engaged in the various training sessions.
