One of the Federal Road Safety Corps’ finest officers, Deputy Corps Marshal Hyginus Omeje, has bowed out of service in a blaze of glory.
DCM Omeje retired from the corps after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60 years, bringing to a close decades of distinguished service to the nation.
He joined the FRSC in October 1992 and retired in March 2026 as the Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Operations.
At a formal pull-out parade—usually accorded to very high-ranking military or paramilitary officers—Omeje was applauded for his decades of contributions to the growth and development of the corps.
At the ceremony, held at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja, officers who worked with him testified to his dedication to duty.
A brief report by the FRSC Public Education Department, summarising his illustrious career, read: “As Deputy Corps Marshal in charge of Operations, he played a pivotal role in strengthening operational efficiency, deepening enforcement strategies, and advancing the Corps’ mission of making Nigerian roads safer for all users.
“Throughout his career, DCM Omeje exemplified discipline, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to public service. His leadership, mentorship, and commitment to duty have left an enduring imprint on the Corps and on the officers and men who had the privilege of serving under him.
“As he steps into a new chapter of life, the FRSC family celebrates his remarkable contributions and wishes him continued success, good health, and fulfilment in the years ahead.”
Part of DCM Omeje’s profile obtained at the special parade also described the retiring officer as “a results-driven and highly accomplished road safety professional with over 30 years of progressive field experience in the Federal Road Safety Corps, combining strong academic and technical knowledge with extensive practical expertise.
“He demonstrates a proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while also excelling as a collaborative team player.
“An effective communicator and leader, recognised for consistently delivering results and maintaining high performance standards across diverse assignments, he upholds high ethical standards and a disciplined approach.”
Omeje holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Health Education from the University of Ibadan, and attended several training courses and workshops in Nigeria and abroad.
He served at different times as Sector Commander in Anambra and Lagos States, as well as Zonal Commanding Officer in Kwara, before being elevated to the rank of Assistant Corps Marshal in charge of Federal Operations (June 2020 – August 2021).
Until his retirement, he was the Deputy Corps Marshal (Operations), bagging a long list of awards, honours, and commendations, including the FRSC Grand Service Award (2018), Safety Award by the Advancement of Safety Consciousness and Development in Nigeria (2017), multiple “Best Sector Commander” awards, the Red Cross Volunteer-General Award, and the Rotaract Community Service Award, among others.
