From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander, Innocent Etuk, has clarified that the corps works all days of the week, including weekends and public holidays.

He made this statement during a sensitization visit to the Cross River State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Calabar.

His reaction follows complaints by the motoring public over the unending patrols mounted by the corps within the metropolis including on weekends.

Etuk explained that the corps’ mandate to ensure road safety knows no bounds, citing the fact that road crashes  can occur on any day.

“We work around the clock, except at night, with our last patrol hour being 10 pm. If there’s a rescue mission at night or 1 am, we’ll respond because our goal is to minimize fatalities in the event of a crash.

“There is no day a crash may not happen  and so we work all round even on public holidays because we are here to ensure safety and save lives”, he said.

He emphasized that the corps’ dedication to serving humanity is guided by its core values and the National Road Safety Strategy.

Etuk pledged to collaborate with media practitioners in the state to educate the motoring public on road safety, ensuring a safer driving environment for all.

“Road safety is a collective responsibility, and we’re committed to working with all stakeholders to achieve our mission”, he said.
