To mitigate the scourge of cancer that has claimed many lives, St. Cyril Cancer Treatment Foundation has revealed plans to, on July 12, launch a fund-raising drive, Project One Million Individual Fighting against Cancer (OMIFAC), towards having a comprehensive cancer treatment centre in Nigeria.

On the inspiration behind OMIFAC and need for support by individuals, corporate bodies and others, the Founder and Executive Director of foundation, Mojisola Animashaun, said OMIFAC was about getting one million individuals to give a N1000 for 12 months in order to provide support for the treatment of cancer patients through the comprehensive cancer treatment facility.

The radiation therapist said Nigeria needs more cancer treatment centres in order to eradicate the disease, adding that the foundation which started in 2013 with a centre in Isolo, Lagos, and another upgraded centre in Surulere in 2019, was borne out of the passion to meet the need for more cancer treatment centres in Nigeria.

Animashaun said the foundation treats cancer using chemotherapy but looks forward to having a facility that is all-encompassing, hence the appeal for donations.

Animashaun said the comprehensive cancer treatment centre when in place would be a one-stop facility for all that cancer patients require to live a healthy life.

She said: “When the centre is built and functional, there will be an awakening in Nigeria. We need to be able to say I am a part of something that is laudable. I can see it grow. I am a part of it not because I am going to have financial gains but that it is going to help Nigerians; it is going to help Africans.

“It is really important for us when we look back in years to come to say we were there when OMIFAC was unveiled.”
