Foundation calls for support for healthcare in Nigeria

By Johnson Adebowale

The O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation has called on wealthy individuals and corporations to support healthcare provision for underserved Nigerians, citing the government’s constraints in meeting growing demand.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the foundation’s 42nd free medical mission in Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State, Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs, represented by Ms. Ibiere Akpana at the event, noted the urgency of addressing Nigeria’s healthcare crisis, stating that many citizens cannot afford basic medical care due to the current cost of living crisis, hence emphasising the need for increased private sector involvement in healthcare delivery. She encouraged the government to consider innovative solutions and partnerships to alleviate the burden on the healthcare system.

The foundation’s flagship programme, the free medical mission, has been providing high-quality healthcare services to thousands of people in the Niger Delta region since 2005. The 42nd mission, held in collaboration with the Gokana local government area, offered a wide range of medical services to the community.

Lulu-Briggs expressed her concern about the challenges faced by many Nigerians in accessing affordable healthcare. She urged the government to adopt more creative strategies and partnerships to address the crisis.

While the foundation continues to provide essential healthcare services, Lulu-Briggs stressed the importance of increased support from all stakeholders to ensure that healthcare is accessible to all Nigerians.
