Former medical director emerges Imo community President General

The former Medical Director of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu, Dr Jojo Onwukwe, was yesterday elected the President General of the Orogwe Community Development Union (OCDU) National Executive Council (NEC) President General. Orogwe town is in Owerri-West Local Government Area of Imo State.

Dr Onwukwe scored 314 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief Ugochukwu Duru, a former Community Liaison Officer (CLO), who scored 90 votes, while Engr. Paul Ejiogu garnered 70 votes to take the third place. Lagos-based insurer, Mr Andrew Okedurum scored 20 votes to come last in the contest that saw 500 voters deciding who becomes the Orogwe Community Development Union National Executive President General with six votes recorded as void.

The winner of the election, Dr Onwukwe, who is known for his philanthropy and generosity in the community, said that he decided to condescend low to serve his people in order to redirect the community on the path of growth again.

He thanked the people for having confidence that he has the capacity to salvage the community popularly referred to the British of the Umunwaoha Autonomous Community.

Dr Onwukwe thanked the leaders and elders of the community, as well as the youths for coming out en masse to vote for him.

The former Medical Director and now MD of Bethsaida Specialist Hospital, Orogwe, also thanked the OCDUNEC Electoral Committee led by Sir Cliff Ahuakagha for conducting a free and free election.
