Former governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson, and some federal lawmakers in the state have celebrated Mrs. Amalate Ann Jonathan Obuebite, a doctorate degree holder, over her emergence as the second woman in the state to be conferred with the fellowship status of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE). Obuebite is a senior lecturer at Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island.
The conferment ceremony, which had in attendance the immediate past governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Seriake Dickson; serving and former members of House of Representatives, including Rodney Ambaowei, Oforji Oboku, Prof. Lilian Orogbo, Israel Sunny Goli, Karibo Nadu, and Francis Otta Agbo, was held at International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Dickson, who is currently representing Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, in his congratulatory message, said Obuebite has further put Bayelsa in the technological global radar.
He said that he is proud to be associated with her for being the second woman from the state to be conferred with the fellowship. He stressed the need for other women to follow her footpath in bringing honour to the state.
Speaking shortly after her conferment, Obuebite attributed the height that she has attained in the profession to the unfailing mercies of God and dint of hard work. She also thanked her husband, Dr. Jonathan Robinson Obuebite, their children, the former governor Dickson, and National Assembly members for their support.
She described her conferment as a fellow of NSE as a further confirmation that women have a critical role to play in the nation rebuilding process and everyone, regardless of their gender has a voice that must be heard.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Margaret Aina Oguntala has been sworn in as National President of NSE. The former national president, Tasiu Saad Gidari-Wudil, said he was thrilled to hand over to the first ever-female president of the society after 65 years of existence of NSE.
