At GT Fashion Week 2023, the runway pulsed with energy as Zubere, the bold fashion house led by Nancy Chizubere Johnson Chidiadi, debuted a show stopping unisex collection titled Ember Surge.

With a palette dominated by intense orange and silhouettes that challenged the rules of form, structure, and gender, the collection set the entire room ablaze, both metaphorically and visually.

Zubere’s Ember Surge wasn’t just a presentation of clothing. It was a fire lit performance, a cinematic expression of movement and mood. The first look to grace the stage was a sculpted, ruffled mini dress that hugged the body in confident ripples of fabric, balancing delicate femininity with assertive volume. It was a love letter to classic silhouettes, reimagined for the contemporary wearer who is unafraid to own space.

The second look raised the stakes even higher, a breathtaking, voluminous gown constructed with layered ruched panels that moved like a living flame. With its sharp straps and unrestrained length, it felt like an ode to couture, drama, and the beauty of wearable chaos. Every detail, from the exaggerated folds to the confident pace of the model, spoke of a designer deeply in control of her artistic vocabulary.

Then came a shift, a masculine presenting model walked in a fully orange look, combining tailored shorts, a layered shirt, and a loosely draped scarf. Yet despite its simplicity, the look felt powerful and regal. It wasn’t masculine in the traditional sense, nor was it overly styled. Instead, it felt like a redefinition of what menswear could be: expressive, unboxed, and visually fluid.

Together, the three looks formed a trilogy of intention. Nancy Chizubere Johnson Chidiadi didn’t just deliver clothing. She offered storytelling through fabric, movement, and color. Ember Surge lit a fire under Nigeria’s fashion conversation, placing Zubere at the center of what the future of unisex fashion on the continent can look like.

Daily Sun recognizes Zubere not just as a label to watch, but as a force rewriting the fashion playbook entirely. With Ember Surge, we are witnessing a designer step fully into her flame.
