Flag officer tasks naval personnel professionalism

The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) Rear Admiral Patrick Nwatu has called on naval personnel to live within the core values of professionalism, team spirit and integrity in all their dealings. Admiral Nwatu spoke at the combined graduation of the students (ratings) of second quarter courses of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) QUORRA explaining that, “As seamen, you are the core of every naval operation. You fight the war and enforce the laws. Your words, actions and gestures could determine a lot that could go right or wrong. So,you must strive to speak from a position of knowledge and act from prism of patriotism. Stay above board always.”

The courses graduated 1st rate, 2nd rate and 3rd rate naval personnel in various professional schools. Including, the Navigation and Direction School, Underwater Warfare School and Communication and Information Technology School. Others include the Physical Training School, Computer Training School and the Religious schools comprising the Imam, Protestant and the Roman Catholic.

The FOC NAVTRAC reminding them that the various courses they have undertaken, is a build up on the series of trainings which were focused on developing critical skills and competencies needed to handle the sophistication of naval fleet and counter the prevalent maritime threats that continue to plague Nigeria’s maritime domain.

His words: “the practical exercises you were exposed to, has equipped you with the requisite knowledge that would engender the desired outcomes in our operations. I am bold to announce to you that your training is world class and In pursuit of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla’s Strategic Directives.

The FOC revealed that significant progress has been made towards certification of NNS QUORRA courses by Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency in line with International Maritime Organization standards.

He commended the NNS Quorra for engaging with relevant stakeholders, particularly NIMASA, to standardize their training in order to earn IMO certification, applauding them on the reintroduction of swimming training into the curricula.
