Firm holds exclusive wine tasting to commemorate Nelson Mandela Memorial

In a memorable blend of culture, hospitality and reverence, Ugo Harry & Associates Limited orchestrated an exclusive wine‑tasting soirée in Ikeja, Lagos to mark the memorial of former South African President, Nelson Mandela, honouring his enduring legacy of equality and justice.

The event, co-hosted with Wines of South Africa, was held at the private residence of Prince Ugochukwu Amam, the Chief Executive Officer of Ugo Harry & Associates.

Attended by dignitaries, wine connoisseurs, Nigerian business leaders, and the Charge d’Affaires of the South African Consulate in Lagos, Ms. Sebo Lenyai, the evening was both reflective and celebratory.

Ms. Lenyai, who represented the consular general of South Africa in Nigeria, recalled Mandela as “a symbol of humanity, equality, and justice,” highlighting that his legacy of fighting inequality and poverty “remains in our hands.” She emphasized that the collaborative wine tasting transcended mere enjoyment to foster “people‑to‑people connections” and deepen cultural appreciation. Representatives from Wines of South Africa, Matome Mbatha explained that the event, held annually on July 18 to coincide with Nelson Mandela Day, aims to educate guests about South Africa’s rich wine traditions while encouraging community engagement reflective of Mandela’s 67 minutes of service ethos.

Ahead of the tasting, a masterclass introduced Nigeria’s wine industry stakeholders to premium South African labels, particularly varieties from the Western Cape, a region celebrated for world-class viticulture.

Prince Amam and his family emphasized the event’s deeper ambitions. Tiger Amam described it as “a proud historical moment,” marking a bridge strengthening ties between two resilient African nations.

Mona Lisa Amam added that their initiative aimed to introduce Nigerian investors to the South African wine industry’s job and growth potential, while Divine and Princess Ada Amam spoke of the event’s global aspirations and the premium authenticity of wines showcased  .

The evening concluded with guests sampling bespoke wines, savoring premium selections from the Western Cape, and deepening cross-cultural bonds—demonstrating a successful fusion of business, culture, and Mandela’s enduring principles.
