New Horizons has intensified efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s digital capacity through a series of multi-institution partnerships, artificial intelligence (AI) empowerment initiatives and targeted corporate social responsibility (CSR) interventions aimed at preparing students for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The latest move was formalised recently, when the organisation signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Redeemed College of Technology and Management (RECTEM), marking a strategic collaboration designed to expand access to globally recognised ICT training and certification for Nigerian students.
Under the agreement, New Horizons will provide RECTEM students with international ICT certifications and hands-on training in emerging technology areas, including artificial intelligence, robotics, cybersecurity and data analytics. The initiative positions RECTEM as the first private college of technology in Nigeria to adopt a comprehensive Fourth Industrial Revolution-focused training framework intended to improve graduate employability and global competitiveness.
Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of New Horizons Nigeria, Tim Akano, said the partnership reflects the organisation’s long-standing commitment to closing Nigeria’s digital skills gap through practical, industry-aligned training. He noted that New Horizons, a United States-based ICT training institution with a 43-year history, operates in more than 90 countries through over 400 centres worldwide.
The Rector of RECTEM, Prof. Izobo-Martins Oladunni Oluwatoyin, described the collaboration as timely, stating that it would equip students with entrepreneurial and future-ready digital competencies required to compete effectively in the global knowledge economy.
The signing ceremony was attended by principal officers of the college, including the Registrar, Dr. Sunday Onjewu; the Bursar, Mr. F. A. Oyewole; the ICT Director, Dr. Stella Egbowawa; and the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr. Enoch Aregbe, alongside other stakeholders.
Beyond tertiary education, New Horizons also announced the addition of 13 secondary schools to its growing national network of more than 150 partner institutions. The newly onboarded schools include Kimberly Castle, Strong Towers, Fountain Point College, Fountain Point Primary School, Treasure Stone, Christ the King School College, Christ the King Primary School, Jextoban College Ibafo, Yabatech Secondary School, TOAMY, Divine Offspring, Divine Heritage Ibadan, CMS Grammar School and Babington Macurly Junior Seminary.
The expansion, according to the organisation, is part of a broader strategy to nurture digital talent from early learning stages and build a sustainable pipeline of technology-ready professionals across Nigeria.
In a related development, New Horizons extended its collaboration to the university level through a partnership with Monarch University, Ota, Ogun State, focused on international ICT certification and AI empowerment for students. Chancellor of the university, Bishop Tom Samson, said the initiative would complement academic programmes across the sciences, management, social sciences and humanities.
As part of its annual CSR programme to strengthen research and learning resources, New Horizons donated 250 high-end ICT courseware materials to the Monarch University Library. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mopelola Omoegun, who received the materials, said the donation would enhance teaching, research, innovation and technological advancement within the institution. The event was attended by other senior officials, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, University Librarian and Head of the Computer Science Department.
Through its expanding partnerships, AI-focused training programmes and education-driven CSR initiatives, New Horizons Nigeria said it remains committed to transforming learning, empowering young people with relevant digital skills and positioning the country for sustained participation in the global digital economy.
New Horizons Nigeria is regarded as one of Africa’s largest ICT training organisations, providing technology education to more than 25 universities and nearly 200 secondary schools nationwide. The company, a franchise of New Horizons International with offices in over 90 countries, received recognition in 2025 from CompTIA in South Africa as a leading ICT training provider. As of January 2026, the organisation and its founder, Tim Akano, have collectively received more than 320 national, continental and international awards in technology, entrepreneurship and youth empowerment.
