The World Football governing body FIFA, Tuesday for the second time in seven years , handed out another two -year ban to it’s former executive member Dr. Amos Adamu.
Adamu had previously served out a three-year ban from all football-related activities for accepting bribes in relation to the attribution of the 2018 World Cup to Russia and 2022 tournament to Qatar slammed on him in 2010.
The adjudicatory chamber of the independent Ethics Committee, chaired by Hans -Joachim Eckert, slammed the fresh ban on Adamu twenty days after the self acclaimed Nigeria Football President, Chris Giwa and four other Nigerians were given a five year ban on football related activities world wide.
According to FIFA, the investigations of the former West African Football Union (WAFU) President was conducted by the chairman of the investigatory chamber of Ethics Committee Dr. Cornel Borbély, with the final report submitted on December 2, 2016.
“The adjudicatory chamber determined that, through his involvement in the organisation of an event in 2010, while being a member of the (then) FIFA Executive Committee, Mr Adamu violated articles 13 (General rules of conduct), 15 (Loyalty) and 19 (Conflicts of interest) of the FIFA Code of Ethics,” the release read.
The sanction is effective from 28 February 2017, the date on which this decision was notified.
