FG, UNICEF urge media to step up ethical reporting of children

The Federal Government, United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and experts have urged journalists and media to step up and improve on their ethical reportage of child issues in the country.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Mr Ogbodo Nnam, made the call yesterday at the opening of a two-day training of journalists in six North East states and Plateau State on Ethical Journalism and Child Right Repotting in Gombe.

Nnam, who was represented by an Assistant Director/Head of Advocacy Child Rights Information Bureau (CRIB) in the ministry, Mr Temiloye Falayi, appealed to journalists and media practitioners to be more sensitive, concerned and demonstrate integrity even with huge power they possess as the watchdog of the society.

“The media holds immense power; the power to inform, inspire and hold institutions accountable. But, with that power comes profound responsibility to report.
