The Naija Entrepreneurship Academy (NEA), led by Fatima Sadiq Mohammed, has officially launched the Nigeria Entrepreneurship Initiative, an online platform offering free courses to small business owners, aspiring entrepreneurs, and the unemployed. The initiative aims to provide essential learning materials, supplied by global experts and seasoned business owners, on topics crucial for growing startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
SMEs contribute nearly 48% to Nigeria’s national GDP and over 85% of employment, making them the backbone of the economy. The need to support more individuals in launching businesses and reducing failure rates has never been more urgent. “Small businesses are the drivers of innovation and job creation, and it is critical that we offer support that is tangible and attuned to the realities of entrepreneurs,” Mohammed said.
The courses, designed to be mobile-friendly, are tailored to individuals with limited resources across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), providing access to vital entrepreneurial knowledge regardless of location. This ensures that the initiative is inclusive and accessible to all, particularly in underserved areas.
The NEA is a collaboration between The StartUp Tribe, a global initiative present in 451 cities across 27 countries, and The Crystal Hands Empowerment Initiative (CHEI), with strong support from the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF). “This partnership is a testament to the power of collaboration, with a shared goal of creating economic opportunities and reducing unemployment,” Mohammed added.
