The Federal Government has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Nnani Adaobi Marian, a 23-year-old Nigerian medical graduate who reportedly died after sustaining injuries during a Russian airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Ebienfa, described the incident as tragic and extended its condolences to the deceased’s family, friends and the wider Nigerian community in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the ministry, Marian, a graduate of Kharkiv National Medical University, succumbed to injuries she sustained during the aerial bombardment.
The government said it has begun working with relevant authorities, as well as Nigeria’s diplomatic missions in Ukraine and Germany, to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and provide the necessary consular assistance to her family.
“The Federal Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, colleagues, and the Nigerian community affected by this tragic loss,” the statement stated.

The ministry also reaffirmed Nigeria’s concern over the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, noting that innocent civilians continue to bear the brunt of the war.
It renewed the country’s call for an immediate end to hostilities and urged all parties involved in the conflict to embrace dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful dispute resolution in line with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
