Minister for Regional Development, Alhaji Abubakar Momoh has solicited the supports of international development partners to address the impact of protracted insurgency in the North East and last year’s devastating flood in Borno.

Momoh made the call in Maiduguri, yesterday, during a courtesy visit to the state governor to commence a two-day working visit to Borno to access the progress of rebuilding the area by the North East Development Commission (NEDC)

“We want to call on all development partners to come to the support of Borno in overcoming the impact of last year’s flood and Boko Haram insurgency, which has destroyed many infrastructure and created huge infrastructural deficit.”

He said a lot of interventions were required to put the North East on proper footing to accelerate its development like other zones in the country.

The minister earlier visited the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi. He hailed the traditional ruler for sustaining the Kanem-Borno historical value and pursuing unity of the people of the area.

Governor Babagana Zulum said the state had benefited immensely from the North East Development Commission’s (NEDC) interventions in road reconstruction, health and education sector, as well as manpower development. Zulum, who was represented by his deputy, Alhaji Umar Kadafur, commended the commission for helping the people of the North East and for bridging the gap of infrastructure deficit in Borno State.
