The Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), has assured road users of the deployment of improved materials and enhanced technology aimed at improving road infrastructure across the country.
The Managing Director, FERMA, Emeka Agbasi, gave the assurance during an inspection tour of its road projects in Lagos on Wednesday.
According to him, “FERMA is constantly evolving the processes and the models, the materials it uses. More recently, there have been discussions on using SuperPave, which is a superior performance pavement, and also the use of polymer-modified binders. So, we are constantly looking at the materials that we use, processes we use, and also the technologies that are being used to construct the pavements.”
“We are also particular about improved drainage systems to mitigate flooding,” he added.
The inspection tour started with a visit to the Agency’s road project at water corporation drive and trinity road, Oniru, Victoria Island and later proceeded to Ijora.
Further highlighting the importance of good roads particularly for commercial activity, Agbasi stated: “We understand the need for safe and reliable road networks in promoting economic growth and ensuring easy flow of goods and services.”
He emphasized that the measures were part of FERMA’s long-term strategy to transform Nigeria’s road and in line with the Renewed Hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu in improving the nation’s transport system.
The Oniru of Iruland, Oba Abdul Lawal, who received the inspection team earlier in Oniru, expressed gratitude and satisfaction at the level of work going on in the area.
Prince Olarenwaju Ajasa, Head of Oniru Chieftaincy Estate Office who spoke on behalf of the King, said that “The newly constructed roads was rapidly increasing development in the area. This is even as he assured the team that the community would adopt the road as their own and maintain it as best possible.”
