Fans react to missed Chances as Liverpool–Man Utd derby defines EPL Watch Parties

At Anfield, and beamed live across the cities, the two titans of English football Liverpool and Manchester United lined up last Sunday.

Jürgen Klopp’s Reds, spearheaded by their Egyptian King, Mo Salah, looked keen to assert dominance, while Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils, with the ever-influential Bruno Fernandes pulling the strings, were ready to spoil the party.

From the first whistle, it was a proper ding-dong battle. Liverpool, playing their high-octane ‘heavy metal’ football, pressed high, with Luis Díaz and Cody Gakpo buzzing around the United defense like persistent wasps. The energy in the Lagos fan park was absolutely bonkers with every near miss, while in Abuja, the United faithful, decked out in their glorious red shirts, roared defiance, urging their lads to hold the line. André Onana, in the United goal, was kept busy, making a couple of smart stops that drew gasps and cheers in equal measure.

The second half began with United looking to hit back. But Liverpool’s defence stood firm. United, to their credit, didn’t throw in the towel. They pushed and probed, bringing on fresh legs in an attempt to find a way back into the game. However, C Gapko, the man for the big occasion, put the icing on the cake for Liverpool in the 78th minute making it 1-2.

The final whistle blew, confirming a comprehensive 1-2 victory for Manchester United with two goals by B. Mbeumo in 2 minutes and H. Maguire in 84 minutes. While the Liverpool fans might have left with heavy hearts, the sheer spectacle and atmosphere created a good vibe among fans with the EPL Watch Party in Lagos, Abuja, Owerri, Port Harcourt, and Aba showing that MTN Nigeria ensured that everyone, regardless of allegiance, had a cracking day out.

Speaking during the event, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, said: “At MTN, we believe every Nigerian deserves to be connected, seen, heard, and celebrated. That’s why we’re taking this experience across the country, from bustling cities to remote communities, ensuring no youth is left behind.”
