Former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has received his letters of credence to serve as Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the Republic of South Africa, the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Kingdom of Eswatini.
Fani-Kayode disclosed this in a Facebook post on Tuesday, saying he received the documents from the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.
“Honored to have received my letters of credence to serve as the High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of South Africa, the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Kingdom of Estwatini yesterday,” he stated.
He said having received the ‘agrément’ and the letter of credence, he would begin the process of reporting to his duty post and presenting his credentials to South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa.
“I shall begin the process of reporting to my duty post, presenting my letter of credence to His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa and starting the great and important work that lies ahead,” Fani-Kayode said.
He expressed gratitude to God and to President Tinubu for the appointment.
“I thank God for the opportunity to serve my nation once again after being appointed as Minister of Aviation 20 years ago ALMOST TO THE DAY! I thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the confidence he has reposed in me and I covet the prayers of all men and women of goodwill,” he said.
“The Lord alone shall take the glory for this and He shall do great things. He is faithful!”
Fani-Kayode’s posting to Pretoria comes as Nigeria seeks to strengthen bilateral relations with South Africa in trade, security and diaspora matters.
The ex-minister was earlier appointed as Ambassador to Germany before being redeployed to South Africa in May.
