The head of the Egunaye family in Lagos, Tajudeen Egunaye, has refuted allegation of professional misconduct levelled against him and officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Monitoring Unit of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, by Olufemi Fasehun.
Fasehun through his legal representatives; Goldrush Partners had petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, over an alleged abuse of power. The statement which was published in Nigeria’s select media dated July 2, 2025, and addressed to the Complaint Response Unit of the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, alleged that CSP Taofiq Sanni, the Officer-in-Charge of the Monitoring Unit on June 4, 5, and 20, 2025, led a team that unlawfully invaded his property – which was still a subject of multiple legal proceedings for over15 years between Fasehun Estate and Egunaye family – at 10, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos.
In a swift reaction to Fasehun’s petition and for clarification on the land dispute and validation of their legal right in the ownership of the property through a Supreme Court judgement, in it verdict affirming their title and ownership of the property,” Egunaye through the family Attorney Aare Tomori Williams said that Fasehun’s petition was intended to mislead the court and deceive the Nigeria Police Force.
He argued that the dispute originated from the contentious and frivolous claims from Femi Fasehun ,who allegedly claimed that the land was inherited from his father.
He disclosed that: “The Egunaye family actually filed a petition to the Nigeria Police Force through the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Zone 2, Zonal Police Headquarters for an investigation on the dispute arising from the subject matter. “Consequently, the investigation was led by CSP Taofik Tijani assigned to the Zone 2, Zonal Police Headquarters.

“The Egunaye family is hereby rebutting all allegations of misconduct or overreaching by law enforcement agency, adding that victim’s legal team has presented a false and misleading narrative thereby omitting vital context.
“I urge all parties to respect the rule of law and allow the courts to reach a final and binding decision without resorting to attempts to politicize routine legal enforcement, Aare Tomori Williams told parties to the land dispute.
He condemned the action of Fasehun for petitioning the Inspector General of Police in a matter under investigation, and alleging a gross abuse of power and professional misconduct by officers of the Nigeria Police Force attached to the Monitoring Unit of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, when in actual facts the police was launching an investigation in reaction to the matter.
“In it finding it was revealed that there’s an existing court ruling, which directed all parties to maintain status quo. But Mr. Olufemi Fasehun who is seeking for equity but failing to act in equity, had failed to comply with the ruling of the court, instead resumes construction on the site. And various stages of constructions were documented as evidence, to avoid physical confrontation.”
He informed that the lead investigating Police Officer, CSP Taofik Tijani in an attempt to preserve the residence and maintain the rule of law was acting on the interlocutory order of court in the matter filed at the High Court of Lagos State, in Suit No. ID/11239LMW/2021 between Olufemi Fasehun v. Cletus Nwagwu & Ors, directed all parties to maintain the status quo, and sealed off the said property where it was discovered that construction was ongoing despite the Order of Court.
He noted that it was the statutory responsibility of the Nigeria Police Force in the issue to prevent the breakdown of Law and Order, and to avail parties an opportunity to present whatever issues arising therefrom. “Several invitations had been issued to Mr. Fasehun, but same had been rebuffed either by him or his legal representatives, Goldrush Partners,” Williams told reporters
