From Abel Leonard, Lafia
The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended four individuals impersonating Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) officials in a successful operation.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Ramhan Nansel stated that the incident occurred on April 17th at Samakwe Lodge behind Government College, Nasarawa LGA. The suspects were involved in the robbery and abduction of a student from the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa.
According to reports, the suspects attempted to flee in a green Toyota Corolla but were intercepted by police operatives. Despite their efforts to evade arrest, one suspect was apprehended by an angry mob. Unfortunately, the suspect succumbed to injuries sustained during the apprehension.
“The suspects have confessed to being the syndicate responsible for robbing and terrorising student areas in Keffi and Nasarawa LGA,” DSP Nansel stated. He emphasised the commitment of the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, to ensure swift justice.
Following thorough investigations, three additional members of the gang were apprehended. Incriminating evidence, including fake EFCC ID cards and stolen electronic devices, was recovered from their possession. Victims of the gang’s activities have positively identified the suspects.
“The Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for further investigations,” DSP Nansel affirmed. He assured the public that the suspects would face prosecution once the investigation is concluded.
