The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said it is improving airport infrastructure and ensuring a stable power supply across major airports in Abuja, Lagos and Kano.
During a stakeholder meeting held in Lagos, the Managing Director of FAAN, Olubunmi Kuku, said focused on upgrading power infrastructure and facilities nationwide.
In Lagos, she said FAAN has upgraded power panels to ensure efficient energy distribution and that similar upgrades have been implemented in Enugu, with the introduction of dedicated power lines injecting from 33 to 11 KVA, and in Kano with the installation of 33 to 11 KVA circuit breakers. These efforts, she said, are part of FAAN’s commitment to providing stable and uninterrupted power supply across all its airports.
To prevent disruptions, Kuku said FAAN has implemented high-capacity generators and solar backup systems in key airport locations. This move ensures enhanced power reliability, supporting continuous airport operations even during power outages.
She said Abuja Airport has seen the introduction of new power distribution systems to support expanded terminal operations and that the Authority is transitioning to energy-efficient lighting systems across airports, replacing outdated lighting with LED systems.

“At Abuja Airport, we have upgraded terminal facilities, including improved toilets and general modifications. The airport now boasts better lighting and an acceptable cooling system, with further enhancements planned,” she said.
Kuku further said that FAAN’s commitment to continuous improvement is evident in the recent commissioning of the E-Wing departure area in Lagos and ongoing renovation work at the D-Wing.
“Ensuring runway safety remains a top priority for FAAN. Over the past 12 months, we have been diligent in de-rubberization and friction tests, deploying additional equipment to ensure compliance with global standards. Regular runway maintenance is conducted to maintain high friction levels and ensure safe landing conditions,” Kuku said.
She continued: “FAAN is also enhancing airport security by deploying explosive detection screening devices and strengthening its aviation security workforce. Over 3,000 personnel have been trained to ensure the safety and security of all airport operations.”
Kuku further stated that to improve passenger comfort, FAAN has started deploying Wi-Fi at airports, including Lagos International airport.
