With a couple of weeks to the celebration of New Yam festival by the Igbo community in Ghana, the Eze Ndigbo Ghana, Global Peace Ambassador and Assistant Publicity Secretary, Ndi Eze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, HRM Eze. Dr.Amb.Chukudi Ihenetu recently visited two traditional rulers in Ghana, where he officially invited them for the September 17 event.
The annual event endorsed by Ghana Ministry of Arts, culture and tourism and also recognised by UNESCO attracts thousands of people from all walks of life who attend the event where Igbo culture is celebrated and showcased to the whole world.
At the palace of Daasebre Boateng III, the Umuduruoha Amigbo Nwagele Imo state-born Royal Father, HRM, Dr Ihenetu along with his entourage and the Igbo community executives from Koforidua, conducted a formal courtesy visit to Daasebre Nana Kwaku Boateng III.
The Paramount Chief of Koforidua had held earlier met with HRM Ihenetu and palace elders if Obieziokwu palace. During this meeting, HRM Eze Ihenetu conveyed the purpose of his visit, which was in response to Nana Boateng III’s invitation to participate in the Igbo New Yam Festival in Ghana.
Nana Boateng III acknowledged the receipt of the invitation and warmly welcomed HRM Ihenetu and affirmed his intention to attend the festival, emphasizing the shared cultural significance of yam celebration in their respective traditions.
Nana Boateng III reiterated the unity between their communities and commended HRM Ihenetu for his dedication to fostering this vision of togetherness.
In the same breath, HRM Ihenetu, who, along with his delegation, conducted a courtesy visit to HRM Oseadeeyo Kwasi Akuffo III, The Paramount Chief of the Akuapem Traditional Area. This visit was a follow-up to HRM Ihenetu’s earlier letter of invitation for the Igbo New Yam Festival in Ghana to be held on September 17. During the meeting, Nana Akuffo III acknowledged the receipt of the invitation and extended a traditional welcome to HRM Ihenetu.
In a gracious gesture, HRM Oseadeeyo commended HRM Ihenetu for his exemplary leadership and expressed his intent to reciprocate the visit in the near future.
While thanking the royal fathers for their support, HRM Dr. Ihenetu assured that He will continue to project Igbo culture in the Diaspora, adding that “our children need to know our culture and it is only avenue like the New Yam festival that they can learn.”
