The Eze Ndigbo Ghana HRM Eze Dr. Ihenetu has expressed sadness over the death of the traditional ruler of Okpanam, Obi Martha Dunkwu, Omu 1 of Okpanam, Delta State, Nigeria.
The monarch died on Friday, the 16th of February,2024, after a brief illness.
In a statement issued from the revered Obiukwu Obieziokwu palace in Ghana, HRM Eze Dr. Ihenetu, who is also the Assistant Publicity Secretary Ndieze Ndigbo in the Diaspora, said the passing of Her Majesty Dunkwu, an icon, is a great loss for Ndigbo at home and Diaspora.
On why she would be remembered, the Umuduruoha Amigbo Nwagele Imo state-born Royal Father HRM Eze Dr. Ihenetu said the late monarch brought Igbo culture to limelight by promoting Igbo cultures and traditions in her kingdom and the Diaspora.
In a special tribute to the late monarch, HRM Eze Dr. Ihenetu said Obi Dunkwu would be remembered for her special interest in Igbo culture. “Only recently she promised to attend Igbo 2024 New Yam festival in Ghana. I was looking forward to seeing her at the festival when I got the sad news. I pray that God gives the family fortitude to bear the loss.
“Our prayers are with the family, Anioma community, Delta State, and Ndi Igbo. She will be missed. May her soul rest in peace, Amen,” he prayed.
