ExxonMobil’s Nigerian affiliate, Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited (EEPNL), has commenced construction of a permanent shore base facility at the Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics Base (LADOL).
A statement by EEPNL disclosed that the project is aimed at strengthening logistics support for deepwater oil operations offshore Nigeria.
The project, formally launched at a recent ground-breaking ceremony in Apapa, Lagos, marks a major infrastructure investment under a long-term logistics base contract between EEPNL and LADOL.
The facility, according to EEPNL, will serve as the primary onshore support hub for the Erha Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel, a key asset in Nigeria’s deepwater production network.
“LADOL is developing the purpose-built facility with full funding provided by EEPNL.
Upon completion, the infrastructure will remain part of LADOL’s permanent asset base, reinforcing its position as a strategic logistics hub for offshore operations.
The shore base is expected to deliver critical services including logistics coordination, warehousing, and supply chain management for deepwater activities,” the statement emphasised.
Industry stakeholders say the project will also enhance operational efficiency and reliability across offshore production value chains.
Senior government officials, including representatives from the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) and National Upstream Petroleum Investment Management Services (NUIMS), attended the ceremony alongside industry partners, underscoring the project’s strategic importance to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
The statement added that, when completed, the facility will include administrative offices, warehouses, chemical storage units, open laydown areas, and pipe storage sheds, designed to meet modern safety and operational standards in offshore logistics.
Speaking at the event, Chairman and Managing Director of ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria, Jagir Baxi, described the development as a significant step in deepening the company’s long-term commitment to Nigeria.
He noted that the proximity of the new facility to offshore assets would improve logistics efficiency and operational readiness, while also creating opportunities for broader industry collaboration through shared infrastructure.
