The 27 members of the Niger State house of assembly, all APC have debunked the reports in some media and other social media platforms alleging that no fewer than 15 members have concluded plans to defect to the opposition parties in the state.
It was specifically alleged that 15 members of the house who lost out in the party primaries/consensus arrangements are planning to switch their allegience to the opposition People Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
But in a joint press briefing in Minna on Tuesday shortly before the house plenary, the speaker of the house, Rt Hon. Abdulmalik Sarkindaji flanked by other members described the rumour as baseless and politically motivated to cause dis-affection among the members.
The speaker pointed out that the 15 members being tagged as G-15 in the house have resolved to put behind them, the outcome of the party and work for the success of the party in the forthcoming general elections.
He disclosed that the G-15 members have no plan or intention to defect from the ruling All Progressive Congress, adding that “they have pledge their loyalty to the party and the governor of the state state, Umaru Mohammed Bago who is the leader of the party in the state.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we are all here together today as one family, as members of the state 10th assembly and members of the ruling All Progressive Congress”, he said.
The Speaker explain further that “I want to make it very clear that there is no such moved by any members of this assembly to defect from the APC to any other opposition parties, you can see for your eyes the 27 Members are here we have interact with each other, we have investigated if there is anyone of us who behind the scene is working out something with the opposition and we found none.
“We members of this Assembly we are one and united family we are behind APC, we are for APC and will continue to be for APC.
“We are for our governor, Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago , we are for our President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2027.
“We also want to use this opportunity to appreciate and thank Mr. President for having our dear governor worthy to be appointed as the Zonal Coordinator North Central of the Presidential Campaign Council and we want the president to know that we are behind the governor and we will give him the necessary support.
“He is going to deliver the six states in the geo- political Zone to APC come 2027 General Election”, he assured.
Speaking on behalf of the G-15 members of the assembly, Hon. Engineer, Mohammed A. Haruna, disclose that they are the G-15 in the house that were not able to make it in the last primary election have no reason to leave the party.
“As the speaker has stated we have resolved and remained one united big family in support of our party, governor and Mr. President to make sure that we deliver the party along with the candidates from the top to the bottom.
“Any rumour that is spreading anywhere is immaterial at this time, we are united, we have not lost any member to any party or any opposition we will conquer and we will deliver in 2027”.
