Aston Villa manager Unai Emery believed his team was in the game until Arsenal scored the opening goal, which they lost 4-1 on Tuesday night.
Emery agreed that the injury that prompted Amadou Onana to leave at the interval enabled the Gunners to take control of the midfield.
Arsenal had no shots on target in the first half before going four goals ahead in the second.

Gabriel Magalhaes, Martin Zubimendi, Leandro Trossard, and Gabriel Jesus all scored before Ollie Watkins pulled one back for Villa in stoppage time.
“We did not concede a lot, no corners in the first half for them,” Emery told BBC Match of the Day.
“But in the second half, the first goal changed everything and after it they pushed it.
“And we had as well the injury of Amadou Onana and we lost everything in the middle and they have the power they showed. And we finished losing.”
