Liverpool Football Club have reached an agreement in principle to appoint Andoni Iraola as their new manager following successful negotiations, according to leading transfer reports.

The former AFC Bournemouth coach has emerged as the club’s preferred candidate after Arne Slot was dismissed following an end-of-season review of Liverpool’s campaign.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the development on Tuesday, stating that the deal has been agreed and Iraola is expected to take charge of the club’s next project at Anfield.

“Breaking: Liverpool reach agreement in principle to appoint Andoni Iraola, here we go. Exclusive story confirmed, Arne Slot left and Iraola will lead the LFC project,” Romano wrote on X.

Iraola, who impressed in the Premier League by guiding Bournemouth to a sixth-place finish and securing their first-ever European qualification, was quickly identified as Liverpool’s top managerial target.

The 43-year-old Spanish coach reportedly moved ahead of other candidates, including Sebastian Hoeneß and Pierre Sage, who were also considered during the selection process.

Sources indicate that Liverpool acted swiftly after Slot’s departure, aiming to stabilise the club ahead of preparations for the upcoming season.

There are also claims that the club consulted former manager Jürgen Klopp during the decision-making process, although Liverpool have not officially confirmed this.

Further discussions are ongoing regarding Iraola’s backroom staff, with expectations that he will assemble his own coaching team upon full confirmation of the appointment.

If finalised, the agreement will mark a new era for Liverpool as the club looks to rebuild under fresh leadership ahead of the next campaign.
