A legal practitioner, Henry Nanna Okeke has hailed Governor Peter Mbah for providing the much needed support and inspiration for the Enugu Rangers International Football Club to win the 2023/24 Nigeria Premier Football League.

Enugu Rangers won the title on with one game to spare after beating Bendel Insurance 2-0 in their final home game of the season at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, on Sunday.

In a statement in Abuja, Okeke said the well-deserved victory is a testament to Governor Mbah’s unwavering commitment to sport development in the state, exemplary leadership, and remarkable support and inspiration to the state football club.

He however appealed the governor to now focus his attention to the development of Local Government League and other sporting activities in the state.

The statement reads in part, “Sir, you have reawakened the spirit of sports in Enugu State again. Please sustain the tempo by the development of Local Government League (Eg. Awgu vs Udenu) sponsored by LGA; Enugu City League (eg. Coal Camp vs Uwani) sponsored by State Government and Inter-School League.”

The lawyer further tasked the governor on the “renovation and upgrading of our historical Recreation Parks and creation of new Parks.

“Each recreation park should have platforms for other sporting activities other than Football. It is heartwarming to see that His Excellency is already addressing the need to revamp recreational parks in Enugu. However, Enugu Games Village, located in Awgu L.G.A is a State Asset worthy of rehabilitation in the spirit of Sports Reawakening,” the statement reads.

He noted that sports is not only economically viable but also a way to engage Enugu and Nigerian youths positively.
