The Enugu State Police Command arrested three suspects linked to alleged armed robbery, kidnapping and illicit drug trafficking in separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
The operations also led to the recovery of firearms, ammunition and large quantities of suspected hard drugs.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, on Thursday, operatives attached to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) carried out the successful operations on May 30.
Ndukwe said that at around 7.30 pm, acting on credible intelligence, VCRU operatives stormed a drinking spot along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway and arrested two suspected armed robbers and kidnappers identified as Ogbonna Chinonso, 22, and Nnachi Cypril, 35.
He disclosed that a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally-made revolver pistol, a locally-made cut-to-size double-barrelled gun, six rounds of 9mm ammunition and one live cartridge.
The police spokesman further stated that earlier on the same day, at around 4.30 pm, the operatives raided a criminal hideout at Trans-Ekulu in Enugu where they arrested a suspected drug peddler, Izunna Ani, 36.
According to him, large quantities of substances suspected to be “Loud” and “Kolos” were recovered from the suspect.

“We are strengthening our operational capabilities and leveraging credible intelligence from members of the public to ensure that those involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking and other criminal activities are identified, arrested and brought to justice.”
The Commissioner commended the operatives involved in the operations for what he described as their professionalism, vigilance and dedication to duty.
“I commend the officers and men of the Violent Crime Response Unit for their professionalism, vigilance and commitment, which made these successful operations possible. Their efforts reflect the renewed determination of the command to maintain law and order across the state.
