The Amufie autonomous community in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State has elected a new President-General, Kenneth Okechukwu Ogili, to pilot the affairs of the community for the next four years.
The election which attracted indigenes from different parts of the country, followed the expiration of the tenure of the immediate past President-General, Chikere Onu.
Speaking at the event, the traditional ruler of Amufie, Igwe Edwin Ikenna Ujah, expressed satisfaction with the conduct and outcome of the election, assuring the new executives of the full support of the community.
He said the elders’ council, Igwe’s cabinet, women and youths would work closely with the new leadership, adding that a joint meeting would be convened with the outgoing executives to review past activities and outline priorities for the new administration.
Ogili thanked the people of Amufie for the confidence reposed in him and his team, pledging to promote peace, unity and sustainable development.
“We are grateful for this mandate. With your prayers, financial and moral support, we will deliver more than expected. Our priority is unity and peace, which are critical for development. This is service to humanity, and we will give every challenge in the community the attention it deserves,” he said.
Chairman of the Enugu State Civil Service Commission, Johnson Odo, described the election as worthy of emulation, urging the community to support the new executives financially and morally.
He also advised Ogili to consult former President-Generals when necessary, noting that collective support was key to successful community development.
An elder of the community, Joseph Ugwuanyi, commended the peaceful conduct of the election, describing Amufie as a community blessed with people of “timber and calibre,” while urging the traditional ruler to uphold discipline where necessary.
Justice Clifford Eya charged the executives to work as a united team, stressing that the success of the administration depended on cooperation with the elders and the Igwe’s cabinet.
A women leader, Grace Odo, expressed gratitude to God for the peaceful atmosphere, noting that it was one of the most peaceful elections ever conducted in the community.
Member representing Igbo-Eze North Constituency II in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Clifford Obe, commended the community for conducting a free, fair and credible election, urging the new executives to remain focused on service delivery.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Sir Arinze Idoko, attributed the smooth process to consensus and cooperation, calling on Ndi-Amufie to support the elected executives to enable them succeed.
The newly elected executives of the Amufie Town Union are: Kenneth Okechukwu Ogili (President-General), Omeh Onyekachi (Vice-President-General), Chukwuka M. Eya (Secretary-General), Frederick Urama (Assistant Secretary), Odo Clifford Udochukwu (Financial Secretary).
Others are Remigius Ofordile Omeh (Publicity Secretary), Agbo Kenneth (Chief Provost), Ali Musa (Provost I), Ugwuoke Adline Nkechi (Provost II), Ugwu Wilfred Okafor (Director of Social Services), Elder Odo NwaEze (Treasurer), Sadiq Nnamdi A. (Chairman, Public Utilities Committee), Odo Oliver Chinedu (Chairman, Works Committee) and Chater Abugu (Legal Adviser).
