The Enugu State Police Command has explained why it arraigned Okonkwo Chisom, the woman who accused her husband of defiling their two young daughters, instead of prosecuting the husband.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, the Command said a thorough investigation revealed that the allegations were false and fabricated by the complainant.
According to the statement, the case began on 25 October 2025, when the 29-year-old Chisom lodged a complaint at the Command’s Emene Division, alleging that her husband, Okonkwo Ozioma, had been defiling their daughters, aged five and three, and had threatened to kill her if she exposed him.
However, police investigations told a different story.
“Following the husband’s arrest and a diligent investigation, the allegations were found to be false and misleading,” the Command stated. “Investigations revealed that, contrary to her claims, the periods in 2024 and 2025 during which Chisom alleged the offences occurred were the same times she had travelled alone with all the children to their hometown in Imo State.”
The police further disclosed that evidence obtained during the investigation, including statements from the couple’s 7-year-old son, showed that the mother had allegedly manipulated the children to falsely implicate their father.

“In two separate handwritten voluntary statements, their 7-year-old son exonerated his father and disclosed that their mother had coached him and his sisters to falsely accuse their father — a fact supported by video evidence,” the statement continued. “Additionally, she attempted to withdraw the case and stop further police investigation upon realising that the truth was emerging and the case would turn against her.”
As a result, Chisom was charged before the Magistrate Court of Enugu State on a two-count charge bordering on defamation and giving false information to the police. She was granted bail, and the matter has been adjourned for further hearing.
The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, commended the detectives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) for what he described as a “thorough and impartial investigation.”
He reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to maintain fairness and professionalism in handling all cases, stressing that false allegations would not be tolerated.
“The Commissioner of Police reiterates the Command’s commitment to fairness, justice, and professionalism in handling all cases. He, however, warns that any complainant found to have made false or malicious allegations will be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
