…says water reticulation, youths empowerment, others to follow suit

The traditional ruler of Edem-Ani Community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, HRH Igwe Samuel Asadu has provided a huge amount of money for the construction of a 2-kilometer access road to the community.
This was disclosed to newsmen in Nsukka on Wednesday during the flag-off of the Odenigbo-Edem-Ani two-kilometer road project, tagged “Edem Ani Road Project by Edem Ani Development Union.”
The traditional rules said that he decided to sponsor the Edem-Ani
road construction project because since he was born the community have never had a tarred road.
“Today, to the glory of God, Edem Ani Development Union flagged off the construction of a 2-kilometer communal access road, which when completed will be the first-ever tarred road in our community.
“This is a community project, but God is using me to make it a reality, my target is to give them asphalted 2-kilometer road, and by the grace of God work has just commenced on the road.
“The road would start from the one kilometer yet to be tarred done by Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the immediate past Governor of Enugu State,” he said.
Speaking further the Monarch said “When my people enthroned me as their King I set out a 4-point agenda which are the construction of community access road, reticulation of pipe-borne water in the entire community, youths empowerment and development of our community market.
“So, after this road construction which we have budgeted about 250 million naira through direct labour, and would be supervised by a team of engineers from the community, next in my agenda is to commence reticulation of pipe-borne water in the entire community, I will be taking every one of my agendas one after the other,” he said.
On how he made his money, the United States of America trained Nurse said that he spent 28 years working in America, adding that he won a contract sometime in the country which he decide to bring the proceeds back home to develop his community, help the poor, the needy and empower the youths.
He expressed his appreciation to all members of his community for their maximum support and cooperation since he was coronated last year as the traditional ruler of Eden-Ani.
Also speaking, Retired Colonel Emeka Ugwuoke, the Town Union President of the Edem-Ani community said that the whole community rallied around to see that the fund brought by our traditional ruler will be well utilised for the asphalting of the 2 kilometers road.
“The fund for the work is ready, we got support from Ferotex Construction Company Limited who gave us some construction equipment for free, our own is just to fuel them and pay the operators, we are targeting that the work will be completed in two weeks
“On behalf of the community, I applaud our traditional who is funding this project, what Asadu thinks every minute is about the progress and development of Eden-Ani.
“Our prayer is that God will grant him long life and replenish his pocket in billionfold,” he said.
The PG advised members of the community to rally around the Igwe saying “The town union agreed last December that we are going to usher in a new era in our community where love will come, development will come, and everything that makes life comfortable will come.”
Mr. Chris Asagwa, a civil engineer, and leader of a team of engineers from the community that would supervise the road construction said that the work is a complete road project that would be asphalted, assuring that quality work will be done on the road.
“We are doing this road project for ourselves having obtained permission from the state government, we are not doing it to save money, we are doing work that will stand the test of time and would be nothing less than quality work,” he said.
Rev. Friday Nnamani, from St. James Anglican Church Edem-Ani, Hon. Chidi Okoro, the councilor representing Edem-Ani political ward, youths men, and women from the community were present to witness the flag-off.
The road when completed would make it easier for the members of the community who are predominantly farmers to access Nsukka town to sell their farm produce.
