Traditional rulers in Enugu East Local Government Area, under the aegis of the Enugu East Local Government Traditional Rulers Council, have endorsed the second term bids of Governor Peter Mbah and the council chairman, Beloved-Dan Anike.
The royal fathers gave the endorsement on Tuesday, during a courtesy visit to the council chairman after their meeting at the local government headquarters, Nkwo Nike.
Speaking on behalf of the monarchs, the Chairman, Enugu East Local Government Traditional Rulers Council and traditional ruler of Ibagwa Nike, Emmanuel Ugwu, said Governor Mbah had transformed the state through high-impact infrastructure and development projects, which, according to him, had positioned the state among the leading states in the country.
The traditional rulers described Anike’s administration as “a new moon that has become a shining light” in the council area. They listed the Smart School projects, completion of abandoned projects, dualisation of the Nike-Ugwogo-Opi-Nsukka Road, and the construction of Type-2 hospitals across the 260 political wards in the state among the achievements of the Mbah administration.
On the performance of the council chairman, Igwe Ugwu said Anike’s emergence about one year and eight months ago had brought peace, harmony, and progress to the local government area. He noted that the chairman’s impact was being felt across the 12 electoral wards and 22 communities that make up the council area.
The monarch, who was accompanied by the First Deputy Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, Julius Nnaji; former Chairman of the Enugu East LGA Traditional Rulers Council and patron of the group, Titus Okolo; Edwin Udoku Edoga and Felix Ugwu, also praised the cordial working relationship between the chairman, his vice, Engr. Kingsley Obi-Anike, and the Secretary to the Local Government, Barr. Obinna Mbeke.
He said the chairman had ensured inclusiveness in appointments, giving every part of the local government a sense of belonging.

Igwe Ugwu further listed the sponsorship of over 100 youths for aviation training, scholarships for hundreds of students, payment of monthly stipends to elderly people and veteran politicians, as well as other development projects, as part of the chairman’s achievements.
He said: “The traditional rulers are not endorsing Engr. Beloved-Dan Anike because of his name or his handsomeness. We are endorsing him because his first tenure brought peace to the area. We are endorsing him because we need peace in Nike land. We are endorsing him because we need development and because we want him to continue the good work he is doing.
“We are endorsing him because he keeps changing gear while the governor is also changing gear. That is why we are endorsing him.”
Also speaking, Igwe Julius Nnaji said the endorsement was based on Anike’s developmental strides and the peace and harmony recorded under his administration.
The monarchs also presented the “Ofor”, a traditional symbol of authority, to the council chairman.
Responding, Anike said he considered himself fortunate to serve as chairman under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, noting that much of his inspiration came from the governor’s leadership style. He thanked the governor for providing him the platform to translate his ideas into reality.
He said: “I am lucky that the governor has already laid the foundation and direction of leadership, and we are only following the track he has created.
“We will not fail the people of Nike and we will not fail the governor. The Ofor you have given us will yield more dividends for our people.”
