Eno takes delivery of 5,000 oil palm seedlings to boost Agriculture in A/ Ibom community

Akwa Ibom State Governor pastor Umo Eno has delivered 5,000  oil palm seedlings to Ikono local government area of the state to reposition agriculture as a major pillar of economic prosperity in the.Arise Agenda . 

Last month , the governor had flagged off Tree Crop Revolution programme with focus on oil palm planting across the 31 local government areas of the state under the Akwa Ibom State Agricultural Development Programme ( AKADEP) .

Eno also commenced ward -to- ward under Arise Farming/ cash crop planting programme in the state .

Eno explained  that the initiative forms part of his  Eno’s Tree Crop Revolution which will see each of the state’s 31 local government areas receiving 5,000 oil palm seedlings while every registered beneficiary farmer receives 40 seedlings for cultivation.

Speaking during delivery of the oil palm seedlings , the Executive Chairman of Ikono Local Government,  Hon.  Otobong Okon Essien, described the programme as a bold investment in the future of the area  and a practical demonstration of Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to food security, economic diversification and rural prosperity.

She noted that agriculture remains the backbone of sustainable development and urged beneficiaries to take full advantage of the intervention by nurturing the seedlings to maturity.

“These seedlings are not merely plants; they are seeds of prosperity, wealth creation and generational transformation

“Our administration is committed to ensuring that every beneficiary becomes a successful participant in the agricultural revolution championed by Governor Umo Eno. Let us cultivate not just farms, but a future of abundance for Ikono people,” she said.

Essien further explained that the Ward-to-Ward ARISE Farming/Cash Crop Planting Programme is designed to promote large-scale cultivation of cash crops across all wards in the local government, create employment opportunities for youths and women, strengthen the agricultural value chain and improve household incomes.

The Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr  Offiong Offor who took the delivery on behalf of pastor Umo Eno commended the state government  for prioritising agriculture as a catalyst for economic growth adding that  the Tree Crop Revolution remains the  sustainable investment capable of creating wealth beyond the present generation.

“This initiative goes beyond distributing seedlings. It is about building resilient farming communities, expanding commercial agriculture and ensuring that our farmers become active contributors to the state’s economic transformation

” We are committed to providing the technical support needed to guarantee the success of this programme”

The  Chairman of  Akwa Ibom State Agriculture and Food Security Committee Agency, Prof. Okon Ansa, described the Tree Crop Revolution as a strategic intervention that aligns with the state’s vision of achieving food security, increasing agricultural productivity and improving rural livelihoods.

He urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the seedlings and other agricultural support provided by the government to ensure lasting economic benefits for their families and communities.

The event also attracted prominent stakeholders, including Senator Aloysius Etok,  Pastor Godwin Ukwat, Prof. Trenchard Ibia, and Dr. Essien Ndueso, alongside traditional rulers, community leaders, women and youth groups.
