Lagos State teachers gathered for an intensive two-day training program focused on “Pedagogical Skills and Strategies: Active Learning and Students Engagement Techniques.”

Organized by Mr. Odunayo Arogundade and his consulting firm, Theraplus Consult, in collaboration with the Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), this event marked the third consecutive year of empowering educators in the region.

The training aimed to equip teachers with innovative methods to foster more engaging and effective learning environments.

The program addressed a critical need in contemporary education: the shift from passive to active learning. Traditional teaching methods often involve students passively receiving information, which can lead to decreased retention and engagement.

Active learning, on the other hand, involves students directly in the learning process through activities such as group discussions, problem-solving tasks, and hands-on projects.

These strategies not only enhance understanding but also promote critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity—essential skills for success in the 21st century.

Mr. Arogundade, an accomplished Industrial Psychologist and researcher with a PhD from the University of Lagos, brought a wealth of expertise to the training. Since 2005, his work has bridged the gap between academic research and practical application, focusing on workplace dynamics, employee resilience, and human-centered leadership.

His approach centers around improving organizational effectiveness through applied psychological principles, specializing in workplace design, employee motivation, inclusion, and leadership development.

This year’s training built upon the success of previous editions, which focused on raising emotional intelligence among teachers, and provided educators with actionable strategies to implement in their classrooms immediately.
