Emir of Gwandu Emirate and Chairman Council of Chiefs in Kebbi state,Alhaji Muhammad Iliyasu Bashar has commended the National Defence College for their commitment to the nation stability,peace and interest in agriculture development.
He stated this during the courtesy visit of the Course 34 of the College,led by the team leader, Air Commodore Abidemi-Adebayo Abu, to him at his palace in Birnin Kebbi.
Bashar noted that their coming to Kebbi State would give them the opportunity to have the first hand information and correct facts about the state which would enable them to dish out proper information to their colleagues.
According to him, ” the college is the highest institutions in the Military that is the main reason when training is on going,every nation do send in their representatives to participate in the training.
” In the first place,what are the roles of the Soldiers? They are to ensure the country is safe and ensure the government is secured. It is very important that we all appreciates our Soldiers and respect them.
“We welcome you to Kebbi State and some of you are in this state for the first time. I want you to observe what you have seen so that when you go back,you will be in a good position to tell your colleagues the right things about what you have seen,what you have gain from your tour in Kebbi”.
The Emir,who commended the team comprises of Army,Navy,Police, participants from Benin Republic and Republic of Tanzania, applauded them for inculcated a woman in their team.
” I must commend you your interest to come to Kebbi to understudy agriculture and socio- political structure of the state. Your team with Army,Navy,DSS, you are all working for the welfare and wellbeing of the country”, he said.
In his remark,the Course 34 team leader ,Commodore Abidemi-Adebayo Abu, expressed satisfaction with the agricultural revolution in Kebbi state, describing the state as a hub for rice production in Nigeria.
Abu, who stated this while speaking with newsmen shortly after the visit, said they were in the palace to seek royal blessings.
. According to him,, “there is a part the curriculum that deals with state and sociopolitical environment and part of this module is a tour to states across the country.
“As we speak, the college is visiting Kogi, Gombe, Ogun, Abia and of course Kebbi States. The theme of the visit is optimising agro industrial capacity as a strategic approach to strengthen national development and security.”
Abu said they were overwhelmed with what saw in Kebbi, particularly in rice and onion production, while advising other states of the federation to borrow a leave from the agricultural thrive being recorded in Kebbi.
“The college is mindful of the enormous role the Executive Governor, Dr Nasir Idris is playing in transforming the state and his interest and approach to transforming the agro sector and creating enabling environment for agricultural industrialisation across the state,” he said.
In his remark, Commissioner for Agriculture, Shehu Muaz’u disclosed that the team have visited many rice mills and farms which gave them the opportunity to interacted with them directly.
“We have visited some rice mills, different farms clusters and society so that they received and interact with our local farmers. And by the grace of God, we have went round peacefully and they are so happy about what they learnt from our farmers”, he said.
He added that their visit to the state shown that the Military are not only concern with the security of the country but equally concern with the development of the country.
